Hermon, Maine (WABI) - A golf tournament took place in Hermon today, allowing participants to swing the club and help animals find a new home.
The 3rd annual “Paws on the Green” golf tournament was held at the Hermon Meadow Golf Club.
“Paws on the Green” is a yearly event that raises money for the Bangor Humane Society animal shelter.
Each entree fee for the tournament will go directly towards food and medical care for hundreds of animals.
Board of Directors member and tournament organizer Russ Maynard has been involved with the Humane Society for almost 2 decades.
He says he is very thankful for the local sponsors and avid participants who come out to support every year.
“You never really know who or how many people are coming, and then the parking lot started filling up, and then lawn started filling up, and we knew it was going to be a great day,” says Maynard, “We ended up with 120 golfers, or 30 teams, so it’s been fantastic.”
In total, around $22,000 dollars has been raised from this year’s tournament.
The Bangor Humane Society’s biggest annual fundraising event, “Paws on Parade” will be returning to the Bangor Waterfront on Oct 4th.
